Sarah Klijsen is a Dutch artist and creator with Chinese as well as Antillean roots. Working with sculpture and installation using mainly the craftsmanship of ceramics and metal. She also integrates latex, textile and found objects in her practice. Her work explores an ever-evolving interest in different subjects such as (postmodern) philosophy, rituals, folklore, nostalgia, impermanence, and perishability. With sculptures and installation using animalistic references, satire, and obscurity, the work plays with a duality consisting of how we both dwell on and treasure the past while moving in a rapid pace into the future. In addition, Sarah has a fascination linking philosophical subjects to culturally significant and sociological phenomena in contemporary society. Such as cancel culture, internet archetypes and the changing of language.
